Background Character Cheat Sheet for Grace Bright

Wendy Bright

Relationship: Mother

Appearance/Stats: Human female. Blond hair, blue eyes, 41, 5'4", average build.

Background: The eldest of three children, she's always been used to filling the roll of her namesake, Wendy Darling, as the mother figure. Despite this, she was a bit of a loose canon in her teen years, even if she put on a good face for the authority figures in her life. Grace was born when Wendy was 18, and she'd only just married Grace's father a few months before. Despite this rocky start, Wendy has raised both her daughters well, encouraging them in whatever they chose to pursue and making sure they got a proper education in sexual responsiblity, unlike the wishy-washy sugar coated "you don't need to know about that, dear" that her mother gave her.

Though she never actually bothered to divorce her husband, they've been seperated for a good decade now. She was constantly fighting against the impression made upon her daughters that she was the bad parent, given that he'd spoil the girls rotten whenever he'd actually make the effort to have time for them. She was glad to see Grace realized the sham this appearance was, once she saw what her father actually did for the fleet, compared to what he'd told her.

When her brother died, she continued to encourage Grace to look up to Diziara as her hero. She was initially worried when Diziara joined Starfleet, and Grace started going on about how she was going to do so also, like "Aunt Dizi" and her father. When it became clear that Grace was interested in flying, and this would mean she'd have to go through the Academy, or some other college, in order to be an officer, Wendy whole heartedly encouraged her daughter's ambitions.

Kizel Eyn

Relationship: Boyfriend, classmate at the academy

Appearance/Stats: Trill male. Dark auburn hair, brown eyes, 23, 6'1", muscular.

Background: The first year at the academy, Grace was dating some dork working towards being an engineer. Kizel was in a few of her classes and took notice of her and Zyrah. He gathered up his buddy, Boq, to take the girls on a double date a week after Grace broke it off with the engineer. He actually was Zyrah's date the first time around, but Boq and Grace failed to hit it off, and Zyrah thought that while he was cute, Kizel wasn't what she was looking for. Grace actually asked Kizel on the second date, and the two have had a solid relationship since.

It drives him crazy when Grace can do anything better than he can, so the two are often in heated competition over something. That said, the competition only seems to endear them to each other more, as often they wager things like sex and romantic servitude as the payout for the wager.

They both jumped at the chance of taking assignment on the Shingen because between love of fighter craft, and the fact that being assigned to a ship with a fighter squadron allowed them to be assigned together, there really wasn't a better solution that would allow them to avoid subspace dating.

Boq

Relationship: Friend, classmate at the academy

Appearance/Stats: Bolian male. Grey eyes, 21, 5'6", trim.

Background: Boq and Kizel hit it off from the first day they met during the first round of entrance exams into the academy. They scored quarters next to each other in the cadet dorms, and often headed out together to find trouble between classes and studying. It was actually Boq's idea that he and Kizel take Zyrah and Grace out on the double date, after one day Kizel pointed Grace and Zyrah out on their way out of class.

Boq's usually the instigator when seeking trouble, and before Kizel and Grace started dating, often would find excuses to dump his best friend and wingman into the lap of random ladies just to see what would happen. He's also the one who brought Shelly into the group during their third year at the academy, when he found she was always sitting alone during their English class.

Boq is a huge racquetball fan, and plays when he gets the chance. He's disappointed he hasn't been able to win over the rest of the group to start playing with him, but he suspects that with a little more nudging, he might be able to win over Shelly.

Shelly White

Relationship: Classmate at the academy

Appearance/Stats: Human female. Light Brown hair with honey streaks, blue eyes, 24, 5' 9", athletic and slender.

Background: In her small town high school, she was the picture of popularity. She was on cheer squad, dated the captain of the football team, voted homecoming queen, etc. When her football captain boyfriend proposed to her during their senior prom, she suddenly saw her life flash before her eyes and was terrified of what she saw. Afraid she'd end up like her older sister, barefoot in the kitchen with a whole passel of children hanging off the apron strings, married to a slob who could barely keep his construction worker job and got shit faced every night when he arrived home, she ran off and enrolled into Starfleet Academy the next day.

The culture shock was intense. Where everyone had loved her in high school simply because of who she was, and her choice of extra curricular activies, at the Academy, she was being judged on how well she performed, and who she knew. Having been too busy in high school doing all the typical things like partying, cheering, and going to all the school functions, she never go involved in any of the things the typical career fleet officer in the making got involved with. She was isolated, and her social skills were the sort that alienated her from the typical cadet. By the end of her first year, she'd resigned herself to being a social outcast and focused on making the best of the education being given to her. She planned on only giving the fleet the minimum amount of service once she graduated, until during her third year, Boq suddenly was taking an interest in getting to know the quiet girl in the back of the room.

Still not entirely sure how to get over the habits formed during her high school years, her integration with the rest of the group is strained at best. However, since she's had so much trouble making any other friends, she makes an effort to make amends whenever she's realized she's gone too far. Boq is usually the most vocal one in keeping the group from actually rejecting her, and to some degree she realizes this and takes his teasing with better dignity than she does from the rest of the group.

She's slow to admit when changing her mind on any topic, and will often object the loudest to things she secretly finds appealing. She tries to maintain an appearance of dignity and ladylike refinement, but is starting to realize she likes to get down and dirty and that she finds unusual things and people attractive.

Toza Zyrah

Relationship: Best Friend, Classmate at the academy

Appearance/Stats: Bajoran female. Dark brown hair with white streaking in bangs, blue eyes, 24, 5'5", athletically curvy.

Background: Deeply religious, even among her own people, Zyrah almost walked the path of the prophets. She literally changed her mind an hour before boarding the transport to Earth so she could take the entrance exam for the Academy.

A highly optimistic person, she always seems to have a smile on her face. Always finding the silver lining to any cloud, and the best in anyone, she is a good person to have at your side whatever you choose to do. Having a particularly rough start at the Academy, Grace realized this when she met Zyrah, and latched onto this woman who would become her best friend. Since then, the girls have helped each other through breakups, stressful exams, and even tougher training courses. They always push each other to do better, and provide the support needed when the other feels like they can't keep at it.
