Next time I bring wine to a human gathering, I'll find somewhere to stop for something of the human lightweight sort with its minimal levels of alcohol. Travis' family, other than Travis himself, really didn't believe me on how potent the blood wine is. Having seen enough humans attempt to keep up with me or my family, I knew they really should have it in moderation.
I was worried when they broke out the bottle with dinner, and looked like they were going to serve it up like anything else one might drink while eating. Luckily Travis had the same realization I did, and managed to explain to his mother the potency of the brew I had gifted. She then decided to put the blood wine away with the hard liquor.
Dinner was great, though the meat was a little more well done than I liked. I hadn't realized the years on Qo'noS had gotten me used to meat prepared practically raw compared to the norm for humans. It's weird how things like that can change in a person so gradually that one doesn't realize it.
After dinner, we sang what his family called Christmas carols. I can't say if all of them are the same, but the ones his family introduced me to were fairly simplistic. I suppose I'm spoiled having gotten used to operas and their complexity. His family was impressed with my singing voice, but I don't think I'm any good.
Everyone got to open one gift each tonight. Travis' mother got me a dark blue sweater, called it a cable knit, it's knee length with big buttons and a hood. A little outside of what I'd normally wear, but it'll be nice on the ship when Travis and Blue insist that it's too hot because they choose to wear a lot of clothing and I would really rather have little to nothing on.
The girls were adorable opening their presents. Andrea absolutely loved the rag doll she received, purple hair, blue button eyes and a green dress. Grace got a toy biplane, and she spent the rest of the evening running around the room holding it up as it if it were flying. Wendy's husband showed up just as his daughters were being put to bed. The guy gives me the impression he's a jerk, but it's really not my place to say anything.
After the girls were put to bed, the “adults” stayed up to talk a bit. I felt a little awkward, because back on Qo'noS, I still get treated like a kid, being only 17. I often forget that Klingons mature faster than a lot of other species, and even though I'm watered down with vaguely half Trill DNA, I still look older than most my age. The benefit seems to be two fold, as once we reach maturity, we then age much more gracefully than most other species. At any rate, everyone had been figuring I was like Travis' age, and no one wanted to believe he had four years on me until I pulled out my work ID stamped with my birth date.
I've been warned that we're likely to be woken early by the girls, as they can't open the rest of their presents until everyone is awake. It's after midnight now, so I probably should go sleep, or at least wake Travis up.
