The mystery man, it was Jarzen. Something involving temporal mechanics and cosmetic surgery. I'm getting ahead of myself though, let me just go over the whole mess as it happened.

So Travis showed up to take me to breakfast, didn't bat an eyelash when I opened the door in the nude, simply suggested we might have a more peaceful breakfast if I put some clothes on.

The night before, Travis had failed to notice my d'k tahg, but I can't say I'm surprised as sometimes he can't sort out the business end of a weapon so expecting him to be aware of his surroundings is a little much. When I strapped it to my leg under the knee length skirt of my dress, he asked me why I needed it for breakfast.

I patted his cheek and told him to stick to his strengths and let me worry about personal security. He insisted on knowing why I needed it, so I told him it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. This he accepted well enough and led me off for a nice breakfast in a human run restaurant.

As we were leaving the restaurant, Travis was asking me if maybe he should take to carrying a weapon regularly and I teased that he should learn how to use one first, we were stopped by the man from last night. I growled and had my d'k tahg in hand before Travis had a clue what was going on. I hissed he should get behind me, but the man grabbed him by the arm first.

He suggested that Travis shouldn't waste his time with me, that I'd cast him aside also. Finally hearing him speak, I knew why he was so familiar. It was Jarzen, but without his spots and ten years older. I pointed out that he broke up with me because he was afraid of my mother, and demanded to know what his problem was. When Travis asked if I knew him, I cut him off curtly.

Jarzen shoved Travis aside and moved to close the space between he and I. I raised my d'k tahg between us and hissed a warning for him to stay back. Travis moved behind me, and I directed him to find Blue and get the ship ready to go. He tried to object through some misplaced sense of chivalry, then due to Blue's activities of choice during our down time but I eventually got him off with a minimum of reminder to Jarzen that he was at the business end of my blade.

Getting Jarzen to tell me what his problem with me was easy, understanding it was difficult. He blamed me for his failure in star fleet, and implied I was why he was on the run and altered to look human. He even insisted that I'd alienated him from his family.

A call from across the crowd to stop him distracted me for a moment, and he jumped on me. It didn't take me long to have him pinned against the wall, blade to his throat, hissing at him to leave me alone and that I was not responsible for any of the things he blamed me for. A couple of men in business clothes approached, and flashed star fleet badges that said Temporal Investigations on them.

Once they'd gotten a secure hold on him, I put away my knife. They wanted me to come in for questioning, but I insisted I really didn't know him and he'd just attacked me. He argued with my claims, but the men ultimately gave me their contact information and asked me to be in touch if I thought of anything they might need to know.

I made straight for the ship, and was relieved to see Blue and Travis were there already. Ignoring Travis and his questions, I got clearance to break dock in record time. Blue waited until I had a course away from the station laid in and auto pilot engaged, then calmly asked what was going on.

I tried my best to get things sorted out as quickly as I could, getting Travis on the comm to our boss, and pulling Blue aside to update him on what had happened. Not realizing that Travis was missing some key details to convince our boss that relocating was the best solution, I had to jump into the conversation.

Once that was sorted out, and our boss said he'd contact star fleet's temporal investigations to find out what was going on, Travis decided to have it out with me. He accused me of treating him like an incompetent child, acting perfect and not communicating well enough for a serious relationship.

I had difficulty explaining myself very well, and eventually settled for telling Travis that I'd learned diplomacy from Klingons, and their definition of diplomacy was assigning fancy names and rituals to what amounted to little more than trying to kill or maim the person you disagreed with. I also pointed out that four years of schooling taught me that moving quickly can be the difference between winning and losing, and sometimes it was more efficient to protect the weaker members of a group than attempt to bring them up to speed in the middle of a battle.

He reluctantly accepted this explanation, then asked me about Jarzen. That was a little easier to explain, even with the gaps in my knowledge, and he took it better than I would have expected. He even came to the same conclusion that Blue and I had, that Jarzen probably was going to try again. I assured him that I was already considering options, and expected to hear from temporal investigations once our boss was done chatting with them.

As if on cue, Blue called down to tell me temporal investigations were on the comm for me. Not surprisingly, they were mildly pissed that I'd told them I knew nothing about Jarzen only to find out that I did know something. Fortunately not being a member of star fleet meant they didn't have jurisdiction and the most they could do was request my cooperation.

Thankfully our boss hadn't undermined my intentions by providing them with the location of the station we were currently headed for, and they had to settle for what I would tell them over the comm. Once they determined to their satisfaction that I likely wasn't voluntarily involved with Jarzen they accepted my offer to keep them informed of anything that comes my way if they'd give me a heads up if he got loose and would have chance to come after me again.

We made good time to the station we were headed to, only 14 hours, and I chose to stick close to the ship once we got there. Travis wandered out a bit, and Blue went off to do whatever it is he does when we hit a station. We're due to go get a load of cargo in a couple hours, so I should be seeing the guys returning soon.

Before he left to wander the station, Travis asked if I might be able to help him in the self defense department. I suggested that perhaps Blue would be a better teacher. I've been impressed by him every time we'd sparred.
